چکیده

We report the observation of intensity feedback random lasing at 645 nm in Disperse Orange 11 dye-doped PMMA (DO11/PMMA) with dispersed ZrO2 nanoparticles (NPs). The lasing threshold is found to increase with concentration, with the lasing threshold for 0.1 wt% being 75.8 ± 9.4 MW/cm and the lasing threshold for 0.5 wt% being 121.1 ± 2.1 MW/cm, with the linewidth for both concentrations found to be ≈ 10 nm. We also consider the material’s photostability and find that it displays fully reversible photodegradation with the photostability and recovery rate being greater than previously observed for DO11/PMMA without NPs. This enhancement in photostability and recovery rate is found to be explicable by the modified correlated chromophore domain model, with the NPs resulting in the domain free energy advantage increasing from 0.29 eV to 0.41 eV. Additionally, the molecular decay and recovery rates are found to be in agreement with previous measurements of DO11/PMMA [Polymer Chemistry 4, 4948 (2013)]. These results present new avenues for the development of robust photodegradation-resistant organic dye-based optical devices.

Mechanisms of reversible photodegradation in disperse orange 11 dye doped in PMMA polymer.

We use amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and linear absorption spectroscopy to study the mechanisms of reversible photodegradation of 1-amino-2-methylanthraquinone (disperse orange 11-DO11) in solid poly(methyl methacrylate). Measurements as a function of intensity, concentration, and time suggest that ASE originates in a state (be it a tautomer or a vibronic level) that can form a dimer or ...

Facile fabrication, characterization and enhanced heterogeneous catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol using undoped and doped ZrO2 nanoparticles

Here, we successfully developed the undoped, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+ doped Zirconia nanoparticles (ZrO2 NPs) by a simple co-precipitation method at room temperature and characterized by various physicochemical measurement techniques to investigate their structure, morphology, and sizes of the particles. The bandgap energy values of doped and undoped ZrO2 NPs were estimated using optical absorption...

Hydrothermal synthesis of nitrogen doped graphene supported cobalt ferrite (NG@CoFe2O4) as photocatalyst for the methylene blue dye degradation

A magnetic NG@CoFe2O4 photocatalyst was developed via a facile hydrothermal method and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) techniques. The CoFe2O4 nanoparticles were found to have a size between 100-150 nm and were unifo...

Self-healing organic-dye-based random lasers.

One of the primary difficulties in the implementation of organic-dye-based random lasers is the tendency of organic dyes to irreversibly photodecay. In this Letter, we report the observation of "reversible" photodegradation in a Rhodamine 6G and ZrO2 nanoparticle-doped polyurethane random laser. We find that during degradation, the emission broadens, redshifts, and decreases in intensity. After...

Low–Threshold and High Intensity Random Lasing Enhanced by MnCl2

Energy transfer is known to have a significant influence on random lasers. However, the study about the effect of energy transfer between metallic salt and dye molecules on random lasers is still lacking at present. Here, we investigate random lasing actions in Pyrromethene-597 (PM597), PM597-doped MnCl₂ (manganese (II) chloride), PM597-doped polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) and PM597-do...
